Neo Hospital in Poland is launching an innovative project of surgical treatment of cervical and endometrial cancer using the da Vinci robot. As part of the project will performed 200 procedures, including 100 in a group of patients with cervical cancer and 100 in a group of patients with endometrial cancer. The project is co-financed by European funds, which implies that the procedures will be free of charge for patients enrolled in the programme. For many patients, the commercial price of the surgery, which amounts to approx. PLN 40,000, has so far been a barrier to access to modern therapeutic methods of surgical treatment of gynaecological cancers. The programme is open to patients from the EU and also from outside the EU. 

The use of the da Vinci robotic system makes it possible to perform procedures that are minimally invasive and at the same time characterised by high precision, which, in turn, makes it possible to remove the cancer and maintain the patient’s quality of life after the operation. The expected significant benefits from the programme include such qualities as less pain, less intraoperative bleeding, and fewer intra- and postoperative complications. The possibility of using the da Vinci robot in surgical treatment is also particularly important for patients with a high degree of obesity in whom the healing of postoperative wounds after a classical procedure is particularly difficult.

• Patients diagnosed with cervical cancer

Eligibility for surgery will be determined by an interdisciplinary team based on the stage of the cancer and the general health of the patient. 

At the first visit, patients are required to bring the following:

If diagnosed with cervical cancer:  

• results of a cervical cytology test;
• results of a histopathological examination confirming cervical cancer;
• results of a computed tomography (CT) scan of the abdomen and pelvis; also, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in the event of a more advanced stage
• results of a chest X-ray;
• medical records of past treatment.

If diagnosed with endometrial cancer, i.e. cancer of the uterus (womb): 

• results of a computed tomography (CT) scan of the abdomen and pelvis; 
• result of a histopathological examination confirming endometrial cancer;
• results of a chest X-ray;
• medical records of past treatment. 

The procedures will be performed in Szpital na Klinach, at No. 47 Kostrzewskiego St. in Krakow (Poland). 

The study is being carried out by a team of 24 expert employees responsible for work on the individual tasks within the project. The medical team is composed of 8 people and there is also a nursing team of 6 people and other specialists, i.e. a psychologist, physiotherapist, researcher responsible for validation and a robotics engineer.
